For the month of September, the Edventures team and founding families explore Japan: Tokyo as home base, a four-day side quest to Osaka, a global hackathon weekend, and a few days outdoors to close. If you are a worldschooling family in Japan, or passing through, come find us: meet the team, share an event with us, and hear what is coming for the community.

What an explorer trip is
The team on the road, and an open door
Founding explorer trips are how Edventures scouts the world: the team and a few founding families travel a place for a month, live the way our seasons run, and meet the worldschooling community that is already there. There is nothing to join and nothing to book. If you are nearby, we would love to meet you: a coffee, a playground afternoon, an event shared, and a real conversation about the seasons and home bases we are building across Asia.

The season opens in Tokyo, our home base.
Sep 14 to 17
The Osaka side quest: four days in Kansai, with Kyoto and Nara a short hop away.
Sep 25 to 27
Hackathon weekend in Tokyo: three days of building, then pitching what you made. Registration is open at any age.
Sep 28 to 30
The season closes with a few days outdoors, being scouted now.
Why September
The month Japan turns global
The dates are no accident. The month builds to a global hackathon weekend in Tokyo, September 25 to 27, and its registration is open at any age: three days of building, then pitching what you made. Our own children have competed at these hackathons before, and the children traveling with us spend the month warming up with practice hackathons of their own. Whether your family enters or just comes to watch hundreds of teams take an idea to a working thing, we attend as families, like everyone else, and we would love the company.
The Osaka side quest lands mid-festival too: from September 9 to 25, FUTRFEST, FUTRWORKS' digital nomad and startup festival, fills Osaka with founders, builders, and remote-working families for talks, workshops, and coworking. Our four days there, September 14 to 17, drop the season into the middle of it, and parents who want that energy can step in for a day and be back for family dinner.
Both are their organizers' own events with their own tickets: FUTRFEST is booked directly with FUTRWORKS at futrworks.com, and the hackathon is ETHGlobal Tokyo, September 25 to 27, registered directly at ethglobal.com. Our season stands on its own, events or not.
The base
Why Tokyo
Safe, endlessly fascinating, and easier with children than its size suggests. Trains that run to the minute, neighborhoods that feel like small towns, food at every scale, and real nature within a day trip. And the Osaka side quest adds Kansai: the shinkansen makes the hop in about two and a half hours, with Kyoto and Nara waiting on the other end.

Tokyo is the home base, with four side-quest days in Osaka and a closing outdoor stretch we are scouting now. We share gathering spots with families who reach out.
How it works
This is an explorer trip, not a program to book. Message us, we will share where we are gathering, and you can drop in and say hello. Meeting us costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
Visa note: many nationalities enter Japan visa-free for short stays, commonly 90 days. Check your family's eligibility early so it is one less thing on the runway.
